Relief Workers’ Strike Over

OFFICIALLY DECLARED OFF IN WELLINGTON. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 21. Tho relief workers strike was officially declared off at a meeting of delegates this morning. “Asa result of representations made to Mr Coateß and promises given.” said Mr Vella, chairman of the Strike Committee, later, “we have definitely gained a small improvement in that the scale of pay will be supplemented by rations, though the extent of the benefit gained is unknown till the new grant comes into operation.” A mass meeting carried votes of thanks to Mr Peter Fraser, M.P., “for the splendid way he had attended to our wants,” to Mrs Snow for assistance in the soup kitchen, and to the Alliance of Labour and Trades and Labour Council for the uee of halls and services rendered. The relief workers organisation set up during the strike has not been disbanded owing, it was stated, to relief operations still carrying on.
