JEFTRIES WINS 17-MILE ROAD RACE The Palmerston North Professional Cycling and Athletic Club held its fortnightly road race on Saturday afternoon, in fine but windy weather. There were six competitors. Tho race started from Church street, via West, street, Botanical road, Gillespie’s line, to ICairanga road and along Karere road to Foxton line, thence back to tho starting point, a distance of 17 miles. The winner proved to be A. L. Jeffries (smin.), he beating J. Christensen (6min) by half a wheel in a well-timed sprint. T. Richards (3min.) was third, three lengths away. C. Jennings the virtual scratch man was fourth and gained the fastest time honours, 42min. 48sec. T. Richards gained second fastest with 44min. 40sec.
