Miss C. Montgomery, M.A., Principal of the . Melbourne Girls' High School, which now meets in the former Federal Government House, has made available £4OO as a science scholarship for girls. In announcing the gift, the donor said: “In order that the girls may come into their own. in science, because of my own dwarfed training in that direction, and in memory of my mother, to whom I owe all, I am giving this sum to bo awarded to the girl of the Melbourne Girls’ Higj| School who at the public examinations of the University of Melbourne, obtains the highest honours in physics and chemistry, or chemistry ■and botany. I feel that in the near future there will be many positions and much work for women along these lines. The one stipulation I make is that the winner must bo a product of the State schools. I am extremely jealous of State education. I think it should be the best possible. There should not be one weak link in the chain.”
