Sandwich Filling
Open-faced sandwiches are a delightful novelty to children,' and although they cannot be packed neatly in lunch boxes, they are a welcome after-school lunch and are especially well suited for parties.- Using peanut butter and raisins, two favourites with children, a delicious sandwich fdling may be prepared. ■ . - Cook half a cup of raisins a cup of water until the raisins are tender. Then stir in a quarter of a cup of peanut butter. Allotf the mixture to cool and - add four tablespoons of cream, a pinch of salt .and one tablespoon of lemon juice. When this filling is used for making open-faced sandi wiches —sandwiches which consist ot one piece of bread —spread the bread I with a sandwich filling, cut it in j circles,-toast and spread it with the raisin mixture. ■*
An incident which happened on an Auckland tram route the other- day helped to prove that chivalry was not dead, and charm still prevailed, states the Star. A young lady was Tunning for a tram, and in doing so lost her shoe. She found herself running with one shoe off and one shoe oh. There was nothing for it but {that she should lose the tram, and brave the wrath that ,was to come when she arrived late for her appointment in the city.- -However,' the day was saved for-her by a young man, who gallantly rescued the .shoe and returned it to her with the remarks “Haven’t you forgotten .something, Cinderella?’
