Improvement in Railway Finance

GAIN OF £119,000 FOR YEAR Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. An improvement of £119,000 in the net railway revenue for the year ended March 31 last as compared with the previous financial year was announced to-day by the general manager 'of railways (Mr. P. G. Roussell). The net revenue for the closing four weeks of the year was £35,000 above the figure for the corresponding period ending March 31 last year.

Mr. Roussell stated that the preliminary statistics actually showed a net revenue of £838,000 for the last 12 months as compared with £689,000 for the year ended March 31, 1931. The total revenue for the year had actually decreased by £1,063,000, Mr. Roussell said, but this was more than offset by reductions in expenditure totalling £1,212,000,
