Window lights
I love to see a rosy glow through window blinds at night. A happy thing it is to show a sort of magic light that cheers the lonely passer-by and makes his footsteps quicker fly. His fancy conjures pleasant scenes behind that window-bbnd. Perhaps a party gay it means, or folks at work, he’d find; maybe a mother mending socks, a father winding up the clocks. The room may e ’on be empty still, though tablo laid for tea. awaits some lucky Tom or Bill, who’ll enter soon with glee; and meanwhile Pussy sits with grace upon the mat to wash her face! >
And if one comes, invited gaiest, that beacon light’s a joy, reminding one that Friendship's best—the love that does not cloy! one knows a kindly welcome’s there, when windows show a light so fair.
