College Lecturer Burned by Acid
UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT AT MASSEY COLLEGE An unfortunate accident occurred at Massey College yesterday, when Mr. C. P. McMoekan, assistant lecturer in dairying, was severely burned by concentrated sulphuric acid. Ho is now in hospital.
Mr. McMeekan was assisting a college employee to carry a two-gallon drum of the acid, weighing about 341 b., by means of a stick through tho handle of the drum, when without warning the stick broke. Tho drum smashed on hitting the concreto floor of tho basement and tho contents were spilled. Mr. MeMedian jumped aside to avoid the acid, but slipped and fell into it. His clothes soaked up the corrosive mixture, completely mining a new suit, as well as burning his body down one side and the back. Neutralisers were quickly applied by the college staff, after which he was conveyed to hospital. His condition is not serious.
