A Social Evening at Stanway

A' social and daneo to augment St. Michael's Church funds was held in the hall on Thursday evening, thcro being quite a good attendance -with representatives from Marten, Fcilding, AVaituna, Cheltenham, Makino and Haleombe. A large fire burned in the supper Tooni and was much appreciated by the older members of tho assemblage, who spent a very jolly time there in playing cuehre. Dancing occupied the attention of the young people, and Bramwcll’s orchestra, as usual, supplied very fine music. Miss Sheila Miles and Mr. C. Smith, were tho winners of the Monte Carlo waltz and Miss E. Waldron and Mr. J. Dais of the spot waltz. At tho conclusion ot cuchro the prizes won were presented by Mr. Neville Jefferies, who, in conjunction with Mr. Arthur Marshall, acted in the capacity of M.C. Mrs. Enos Christian and Mr. Duncan, junr., received the first awards, and Mrs. G. England and Master Eobin Turner the consolations. In* the unavoidable absence of Canon Petrie Mr. Arthur Marshall, in a brief speech, thanked Mesdames T. Jefferies, J. Macfarlano and Turner for their generosity in having donated tho euchre prizes, all of which were very acceptable articles; also the audience for its patronage, and all who had helped to make the evening such a pleasant one. After an excellent supper had been enjoyed dancing was resumed and kept up till I o’clock. During the evening Miss Bertha Dewc sang very charmingly and Miss Euth Marshall and Mr. Cyril Whiteman rendered several ducts which gave much pleasure. Mr. Stan, Marshall also contributed songs and was accorded loud applause. Accompaniments were played by Misses K. Minson and J. StuartMoray.
