Hockey Referees

The nineteenth annual roport of the Manawatu Hockey Referees’ Association states that the active membership remains the same as for the previous season whilo receipts and expenditure have increased. The season concluded with a credit balance, which was very satisfactory. "Messrs R. L. C. Aitchison and H. D. Milne, who have been active 0111cials during the last 10 years, were appointed life members," the report adds. "It was with feelings of great sorrow that we record the death of one of the association's foundation members anti a past president, Mr. C. H. Warden, who passed away in Wanganui; also several members sustained family bereavements. The assignation is grateful to its president for entertaining tho members during the season and lor a donation to tho association’s funds; to the C. and C. Ladies’ Hockey Club, Messrs G. Ransom, R. L. C. Aitchison, A. E. Blackbourn and E. Parton, lor attending the annual and general meetings of tho New Zealand Referees’ Association, held in Wellington; to car owners for transport of members to games and the combined referees’ meetings, and to tho Press for reporting meetings, during tho season four of our members sat for tho Now Zealand Hockey Association theory examination and two for the practical examination. Tho association was instrumental in forming a combined Referees’ Association from tho surrounding districts and meetings were held at Foilding, Palmerston North, Marton, Woodvillo and Pahiatua. Referees attended from Marton, Oroua, Feilding, Ruahinc, Wairarapa, Bush and Manawatu Associations. Tho meetings created friendly discussions and stimulated greater interest in tho management and general affairs of the Now Zealand Hockey Referees’ Association. For this season tho combined referees have been promised support from Taranaki and Wanganui districts. Letters of appreciation were received from the Manawatu Men’s and Ladies’ Hockey Associations, tho Feilding Association, an or me C. and C. and Bunnythorpo Ladies’ Hockey Clubs. Tho outgoing officers wish to thank members for their loyal support and trust tho same will bo given to tho newly elected officers and that every endeavour will bo mado to increase the membership and extend best wishes for another successful season.
