Rare Botanical Specimens
Shown to tho members of tho Citizens’ Lunch Club, and at their request exhibited in the window of the N.Z.I. Co., Broadway, are eight specimens of what may bo called tho most unusual flower known to botanists, many of whom have never seen one. With the display is tho following interesting descriptive card: —- Dactylanfhus Taylori.—Found only in New Zealand, and then but rarely. Maori names: ‘‘Pua o te Reinga” (Flower of Hades), or “Waiwae Atua” (Footprints of God). First discovered by Rev. R. Taylor up the Wanganui river in 1557, and named after him. When freshly cut, it smells like daphne and is of a pink colour. These raro specimens wero found by Mr. James C. Young, of Palmerston North, at an elevation of 8500 feet, near Taupo,
