GOOD rROGKESS MADE

YESTERDAY

With 46 entries, a record, tho Manawatu Bowling Centre’s annual New Year’s pairs tournament was commenced yesterday. Play took place in dull and windy weather and in the uiternoon a little rain fell, nqt sufficient, however, to cause any interruption to the games. Four greens were utilised — Palmerston North, Manawatu, Northern and Takaro —ail of which were in excellent order and played well. Three games wero completed in each section yesterday and when the balance have been finalised post-section play will be commenced. The final is expected to be reached late on Monday or Tuesday. The usual excellent arrangements had been made for the conduct of the tournament and no hitches occurred. The secretarial duties wero capably carried out by Mr. A. F. Wimsett.
