SUMMER GOLF TOURNEY AT HOKOWHITU

Results of First Day’s Play

The Manawatu Golf Club’s holiday tournament opened yesterday under favourable weather conditions and with the course in wonderful order. The entries, totalling 56, included a number of visiting players from Wanganui, Feikling, Wellington, Dannevirke and New Plymouth, and were well up to expectations. A novel feature of the tournament is that the ladies aro competing against the mc'n, playing from tho ladies’ tees and being conceded 5 strokes over and above club handicaps. This adjustment worked out well, for three of the five ladies playing under match conditions yesterday won their games, and the others took their opponents to the last green beforo a decision was reached.
