Daring Robbery From Hotel
THIEVES LIFT SAFE Per Pros* Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. A daring robbery was committed early this morning at tho Club hotel, Sydenham. Thieves carried off the hotel safe, containing the takings for the past few days and additional cash which was being carried over the holidays owing to the restricted banking facilities. It is not known how the robbery was c-ommitted, but it is believed that tho thieves must have hidden in the building until the staff retired. Access to tho office was gained by means of a small aperturo, 14 inches by 10 inches, where the telephone is placed. It is believed that a small man must have got through this holo and opened the office door from the inside. The thieves carried out their work silently and awoke no one in tho house. Presumably the safe was carried to some waiting vehicle, for the thieves got away unheard and unseen.
