PERSONALITIES
Mr. Walter F. Larkin, for 18 years general manager of Sharland and Co., wholesale druggists, died suddenly at his homo in Wellington, yesterday afternoon, at the age of 59. Mr. Larkin retired six months ago. As a young man ne was a prominent Rugbyite and sprint runner.
Mr. J. C. T. Tekao has consented to contest the Southern Maori seat at present held by Mr. T. Makitanara (Tuiti McDonald, of Levin) in the Reform interest at the general election. He is a farmer at Wainui, Banks Peninsula.
Among 127 students of the Auckland University who received degrees yesterday was Mi - . J. D. Maguire, a blind graduate, who received a degree in law. He gained matriculation at the Blind Institute and then went to the University. He is the lirst blind student to gain a degree in law.
The friends of Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Kingsbccr, of Albert street, Palmerston North, will hear with regret of the sad loss they sustained yesterday in the death of their younger son Raymond. This bright little boy, who was just under four years of age, was taken suddenly ill with meningitis on Thursday morning and died the following day despite all that medical skill could do. At a meeting of tho Manawatu branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute, held last evening, Mr. A. W. Thompson made reference to the death of the late Mr. C. H. Warden. The following motion was passed, membtrs standing: “That this branch of the N.Z.E.I. forward a letter of sympathy to Mrs. Warden and family expressing sympathy in their bereavement. ’ ’
