Te Arakura W.I.

There was an attendance of about 40 ladies, including members and their friends at the monthly meeting of tho To Arakura Women's Instituto heid at the residence of Mrs. W. E. Thomas on Wednesday last, Mesdames Bradley and Griffiths were elected vice-presiaonts. Mrs. Noel West, of Palmerston North, gave a most interesting demonstration on tho making of soft toys and later judged tho competition for the day, “Something new from something old.' This was round a very difficult task owing to the excellence of the work and the largo number of entries. Mr a, S. Death was awarded first prize for her boy's coat made from a mans coat.- Miss Parker's beach bag, made from inner tubes of old tyres, was placed second, and Mrs. W. E. Thomas' handbag mado from old felt hats, third. A display of novel art embroidery done by Mrs. Lauridsen, was much admired. Delicious tea was served, the hostesses being .Mesdames W. E. Thomas and Shaw, and Miss M. Bennett, and a most enjoyable afternoon was brought to a close with tho singing of the National Anthem. The next meeting will be held at the residence of Mrs. 1-'. Lowers, Kauwkata, on September 9, when the competition will be for the best soft toy.
