World Bankers Meet to Study German Needs
IMPORTANT CONFERENCE AT BASLE.
British Official Wireless. Received Tuesday, 9.20 p.m. RUGBY, Aug. 11. There is a meeting to-day at Basle of the committee o± banking experts which the Seven-Power Conference on July 23 requested tho Bank of International Settlements “to set up to inquire into the immediate further credit needs of Germany and study conversion of the short term credits into long term. ” The committee consists of representatives nominated by tho governors of the Central Banks and presided over by Mr. Albert Wiggin, the United States member. It took note of tho direct negotiations now proceeding between London, New T ork, Paris and Zurich, and reached the conclusion that no decision should bo taken until the results of these negotiations arc known. Tho British member is Sir Walter Layton, director of the Bank of England.
