Russia’s Economic Warriors Visit London
350 SOVIET WORKERS OF BOTH SEXES. REWARD FOR SERVICE TO STATE. United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Tuesday, 10.20 p.m. LONDON, Aug., 11. Selected from Russians for conspicious service on behalf of the live-year plan over 350 Soviet workers reached London in the pouring rain aboard the Russian steamer Ukraine. Pretty girls strong-shouldered, with tanned complections, wearing overalls and berots mixed with bearded men, fre3h-faced youths, stout elderly ladies and plain young women in homespun and Russian boots. All share two qualifications. None have been outside Russia previously and all represent the cream of Russia’s “economic warriors.” They are making a month’s tour as a reward for service, visiting in addition to Lontlon, Genoa and Constantinople. They will not visit hotels but are living on board the steamer during the whole voyage in accommodation rivalling the crack Atlantic liners.
