Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet at Terrace End

The annual meeting of the Terrace End Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club •was held last evening, tho president, Air. E. Anderson, presiding over a large attendance.

The annual report stated that the net income amounted to £327 13s 2'u as against. £316 Vs lid in the previous year, an increase of £ll 6s lu. The excess or expenditure over income when depreciation was taken into account amounted to £39 14s. Ike actual easn loss for the season was £1 12s lUd. The membership wa s as follows (last year's figures being snown in parentheses): Bowling, 59 (06); tennis, 39 (64); croquet, 29 (29). The season, taken as a whole, did not favour outside sport, requiring line weather and dry praying' grounds, and this-prob-ably reflected on the tennis membership. The.report of the tennis, section was to the effect that one of the worst of seasons for play had been experienced, on account oi the weather. There had also been a severe set-back in membership. In' the-Aiaunwatu Lawn Tenuis Association’s inter-club matches, Terrace Ejid had acquitted itself very well and the club was again worthily represented in the Mamiiwatu Association’s team by Aims H. Litchfield, -to whom congratulations wore tendered. .Winter activities had proved' most successful and the ping-poug elub was-doing very well, being . equal .first with. Kelvin Grove in the tournament. Given lino weather, the coming season’s prospects wore brighter for tne tennis section which desired to express thanks to All. W. J. 'Smith, green supervisor, for the work he had carried out on the cpuits. The croquet section reported one of the most successful seasons, in the club’s history. Thanks were due the bowlers for erecting a shelter. In outside play representatives did particularly well and-congratulations were extended to them. .Thanks were due all who donated trophies with a specie, mention to the services of Mrs. Scroggs, secretary, for untiring efforts, and the club captain and committee who had worked so ably on behalf of the club. The president then presented .trophies to successful winners as follows: —Veteran’s trophy (donated by Mr. A. Stewart), to. Air. Jospeh Wallace; champion singles vase, ' Air. 1. < McLachlan; champion pairs vases, Alessrs. H. Johnson, and O. AL .Christensen; handicap pairs, Alessrs, A. Stewart and J. Aloehan; handicap singles, Air. O. .Christensen; champion of champion singles certificate, Air. O. Christensen. ! Officers for the coming year were 'elected as follows President, Air. A. WT Wood; vice-presidents, Messrs. E. Anderson, H. S. Snell, J. J.„O'Shea; treasurer, Mr. F. Litchfield;-lion, auditor, Mr.'J. J'.'. O’Shea; green, supervisor, Air. J. W. Smith; committee, Alessrs. W. Long,. Al. Scott, J. W. Gordon, D. Glendinning, W. J. Pearce, H. Johnson, A. E. Alien. It was decided to set up a sub-com-mittee to be known as a finance committee and to consist of an appointee from each of the three sections together with the president, secretary and treasurer. It was also decided that the senior tennis subscription be £2 10s reducible to £2 if paid by November 30 following the opening off the season. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officers.
