Population Increase

22,000 IN TWELVE MONTHS.

NORTH ISLAND NEAR AIILLION

The population of New Zealand on June 30, last, was 1,512,627 according to tho Government Statistician’s estimates. The figure exceeded* one and a-half millions for the first time at t-lie end of last year, when it was quoted at 1,506,087. Following is. a. summary of the official estimates of the Dominion’s population', including Alaoris but excluding the island dependencies, at Juno 30 of recent years:— :

If the present rate of increase is maintained, the population of the North Island will reach 1,000,000 in less than two rears.

The number of miles flown last year by civil aviation in Britain was 130,000, and (j 18,000 passengers were carried, together with 13,000 tons of merchandise. Over ISOO aeroplanes wero used, and 3000 aerodromes are prepared and equipped to receive them: - ..,-•■
