Feilding Jockey Club

FURTHER COURSE IMPROVEMENTS. At the moment the Fcilding Jockey Club is undertaking further improvements to its property in South street. With the idea of providing a straight start for the mile and a quarter distance the area of land near the turn into the straight is being cleared and levelled preparatory to bringing it in as part of the course proper. At present the starting barrier for this distance is situated at almost the beginning of the turn into the straight and offers an awkward jump out for horses (inclined to crowd. The outside horses have naturally a greater distance to cover in making the turn to go down 4ho straight for the first time. The now starting barrier will provide for .a start at the top of the lengthened straight and will thus give all the horses an even jump out with the full leugth of the straight in which to settle down to the race. The work is proceeding apace and will be ready by by next Easter meeting.
