EXCELSIOR CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING. From Our Own Correspondent. The annual meeting of the Excelsior Football Club was held in the Farmers’ Union rooms on Thursday ovening, when Mr. T. Moir presided over a large attendance. Mr. J. Setford, senr., said the club had commenced with poor prospects, but by putting up some of the lower grade players had ilnished by being runner-up for the Hunter and Charity shields. Those advanced to the senior grade had played good football. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Sir George Hunter M.P. (reelected), president, Hon. E. A. Ransom M.P. (re-eleoted); club captain, W. Setford; secretary, Mr. J. Millan; treasurer, Mr. T. Moir; management committee, club captains, secretary, Messrs A. Piper, J. Setford snr., T. Davis arid J. Setford jnr,; delegates to sub-Union, Messrs J. Setford snr., T. Davis, J. McKinnon and L. Earle; delegate on management committee, Mr. J. Setford snr.

Twenty-six new members were elected. Subscriptions were fixed at last year’s rates, viz., senior, 3s; junior, 2s; thirds, Is. Sub-comfhittees were set up to organise the teams as follows:—Senior, Messrs A. Piper, J. Setford snr., G. Roberts; junior, Messrs R. and G. Stewart, W. Williams; thirds, Messrs R. Millar, C. Toomer and D. Patterson.

It was resolved to commence practices early in April, Mr. B. Rossiter to bo the club’s trainer.

Votes of appreciation were accorded the retiring officers and the retiring secretary (Mr. Stewaft) was granted an honorarium of £1 Is. A committee to consider the question of organising a dance, and to report to the next meeting of the club on March 27, was set up as follows: Messrs W. Setford, J. Setford, T. Davis, A. Rossiter, A. Roberts, A. Piper and J. Millrin. The chairman in acknowledging a vote of thanks promised a trophy for competition.

High School Old Boys. Tho second annual meeting of the Dannevirke High School Old Boys Football Club was held in tho Farmers' Union rooms on Friday ovening, when Mr. H. Simmonds presided over a largo attendance. Tho report for the season 1929 read a 3 follows: We are extremely pleased to say that this club has been an outstanding Success from all points of view, for besides winning tho Snell cup, Charity cup and Carnaby shield, we finished the season with an excellent credit balance. This balance is solely due to the generosity of our supporters and the fact that every member paid his sub. As regards the coming season we are very pleased to Teport that wc have secured the services of Mr. Glasgow, a member of tho 1905 All Blacks and coach for the last two seasons for University, Wellington. It- is hoped that players will givo Mr. Glasgow their full support by attending practices in full force. —Adopted. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr. N, Paulson; president, Mr. R. J. OUTBREAK OF FIRE. An outbreak of fire occurred at about 3.40 a.m. on Sunday morning in the kitchen of the Oddfellows haH in Stanley street. The alarm was given by the night-watchman (Mr Coleman) and the brigade were soon on the 6pot. The flames were extinguished before the main portion of the hall was damaged. It is believed the fire started from the steps leading in to tho building.

Annual Mormon Conference at Tahoraite. The hui tau and annual conference of the Church of Latter Day Saints woB continued over the week-end at Tahoraite. Ideal weather throughout has favoured the encampment. Mootings were held throughout Saturday and Sunday, there being about 1700 persons present at the Sunday evening meeting. An invitation was extended to visitors to attend meetings and sports and many Dannevirke residents availed themselves of the opportunity to visit the encampment.

The religious sorvicos were under the leadership of President John E. Magleby, while the entertainments and sports were held under the auspices of the M.I.A. (Mutual Improvement Association) with Elder J. Reid Jones (men) and Miss Magleby (ladies) in charge. Several programmes were organised by the Sunday school branch under the control of Elder J. Edmund McGregor.
