ORGY OF KILLING BY DESPERATE MOTOR BANK ROBBERS
Four Officers Dead WILD DASH FOR LIBERTY United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Sunday, 7 p.m. VANCOUVER, March 16. A messago from Denver states that three desperato bandits killed two policemen and wounded four others following their dash upon tho State bank at Mantcr, Kansas, and robbing it of £IOOO. At Eades, Colorado, Sheriff Hickman was killed when his posse attempted to stop the bandits’ motor-car which was speeding through the town to the Western mountain passes. Tho robbers then tried to double back into Kansas by a circuitous route. Sheriff William Cole and three oflicers attempted to hold them crossing tho highway at Chcyenno Wells, but the bandits killed Cole, wounded two of his men, captured their automoDile and headed eastward.
Surrender to Machine-Gun Fire ALL PREVIOUSLY CONVICTED OF MURDER . Received Sunday, Midnight. NEW YORK, March’ 16. The three desperadoes ivho robbed the Mantcr bank were surrounded and surrendered to machine gun fire after leading the police a hard chase through three States for twenty-seven hours. All wore escaped prisoners previously convicted of murder. The police will demand the death penalty for their slaying of the two sheriffs.
