Leo Carrillo in Lombardi Ltd.

The Box plans will be opened at the Central Booking Office this morning at nine o’clock for tho first and only appearance here of the great and brilliant .star Leo Carrillo in the pkenornrcally successful comedy, "Lombardi Ltd.” which will happen at the Opera House on Thursday night next. The career of Leo Carrillo is one of the most interesting of tho stage celebrities of to-day. Carrillo was at first a successful civil engineer; from machnnical drawing he turned to more artistic work, securing a lucrative appointment on a leading newspaper. Then tho scent of news—"real live copy”—unconsciously developed, and he joined the literary staff. Next came tho combination of his newspaper experience and his art studies, and Jio told the news in pictures; became a cartoonist in fact. His natural and wonderful powers of mimicry enabled him to characterise his innumerable objects to the enthusiastic plaudits of his fellow-pressmen, and the discerning critic of the staff suggested tho stage as the proper medium of expressing his volatile, infectious humour. On the stage Carrillo scored one of the greatest successes ever achieved; he became famous almost in a night. Then Frederick and Fanny Hatton wrote for him the splendid comedy-play "Lombardi Ltd.” and in the great.character role of Tito Lombarid he set the seal of fafiie! upon his name, and for months vast crowds attended the theatre where he appeared. It is in this unique characterisation that New Zealand audiences will have the pleasure of seeing this talented. actor, who will be supported by one of the strongest companies ever assembled by J, 0. Williamson Ltd., under whose auspices the Australian and New Zealand tour is being made, prior to Carrillo appearing in "Lombardi Ltd.” in London. -
