x WHAKARONGO v. TAONUI. On Saturday afternoon Whakarongo Tennis Club played Taonui a friendly match at Taonui. Although the weather proved showery and marred the play to a cortain extent an enjoyable afternoon was spent. Whakarongo proved much the stronger team, winning by 13 sets to 3, and 89 games to 53. The detailed results are as follow, Taonui players being mentioned first:— Ladies doubles: Misses M. Benge and M. Baxter lost to Miss G. Vautior and Mrs. Sly, 2—6; Misses F. Price end A. Heard lost, to Misses C. Vautier and VVoodd, 3—6. Men’s doubles: C. Hughes and Jefferies lost to Vautier and Clark,' 3—6; Hughes and Benge lost to Mills and Jackson, I—6. Ladies’ singles: Miss M. Bongo lost to Miss G. Vautior, 3—6; Miss M. Baxter lost to Mrs. Sly, I—6; Miss F. Price lost to Miss C. Vautier, I—6; Miss A. Heard beat Miss E. Woodd, 6—5. Men’s singles: C. Hughes lost to Vautier, 3—6; Jefferies lost to Clark, 5 —6; Hughes beat Mills, 6—5; Benge lost to Jackson, 3—6. Mixed doubles: Miss M. Benge and Hughes lost to Miss G. Vautier and Vautier, 4—6; Miss M. Baxter and E. Jefferies lost to Mrs. Sly and Clark, 2—6; Miss F. Price and Jefferies beat Miss C. Vautier and Mills, 6—-1; Miss A Heard and Benge lost to Miss Woodd and Jackson, 4—6.
