FILM ACTRESS SUED

TWO BOXES ON THE EAR.j Few of the film ro'es of the ■wellknown actress Maria Corda have aroused more interest than that in wliicn she will shortly appear before the Berlin Civil Courts, said tho Berlin correspondent of the Daily Telegraph on May IC. She will thcro bo defendant in an action for £SOOO, which is claimed by the producer, Martin Berger, as the price of giving him two boxes on his cars. Naturally there arc essential facte which will only be established by the judical hearing. Tho episode arose out of a professional engagement which was offered by the plaintiff to defendant when sho was still at Hollywood. She was to receive £3OOO for five week's filming. On these terms she returned to Berlin, and for a week or two all went ■well. Then, however, differences arose, and on both sides allegations are made that the other did not fulfill the terms of the contract. Tho actress complains that for some of the pictures taken at a distance from Berlin her part was usurped by a “double.” On the other hand the producer declares that, she disorganised the work by habitual unpunctuality and other breaches of “atelier discipline.” Ultimately these mutual dissatisfactions were discussed in an interview of so stormy a character that after some “unparliamentary expressions” used by Ilerr Berger the actress lost her temper, and, starting to her feet, delivered right and left the two blows for which she is now asked to pay at tho rate of £2500 each. Plaintiff, however, undertakes to withdraw his claim if the actress will agree to cancel tho contract uud forao her salary.
