Bede’s Anglican Church, Mr. Wm. Hickson addressed a gathering of Shannon people on spiritual healing. Mr. Hickson is of world-wide fame in his practice of this aspect of Christian living. In introducing his subject, Mr. Hickson said that he was not proclaiming some new phase of the faith, but was endeavouring to revive a neglected part of the programme of the Church activity. For the first 400 or (500 years, said the speaker, the early church practised spiritual healing and it was quite a regular part of its work During the decline of tlie church, this, with many another phase of Christianity, was neglected. For years now, however, the subject had been reviving rapidly, and soon, it would agaiu become a prominent part of the church’s work.

During the course of life remarks Mr Hickson said that faith was absolutely necessary —faith' in the power of Christ and God —before a cure in His Name can bo effected. Another important thought uttered was that this power to heal was available to every Christian. It was a sin, ho said, not to use this power from God in a time like this when wo could see suffering and pain all around. The lack of faith abounding to-day, he attributed to the wrong idea so wide-spread, that God was a God of fear and wrath, instead of the truth, taught by Jesus, that God is Love. “God does not punish people by sickness,’ ’ said he, “it is due generally to their neglect and sin or perhaps to that of their fathers. It is the work of the devil —not of God.’’ The cause however, was not important. The vital thing was that Christians had the power to alleviate suffering. The Gospel he said, was the best book in the world on spiritual healing.
