ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY DECLINES TO ACCEPT PROPOSITION
Fixture in Wellington
STRONG OPPOSITION TO CENTRALISATION IDEA SHOWS MUST BE MOVEABLE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. At the annual meeting of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand to-day, much discussion ensued on the recommendation of a special committee formed to report to the council, that an offer by tho Wellington Winter Show association to run the Royal Show regularly each year, be accepted. The terms were that the Wellington association would pay the Royal Agricultural society a sum of £SOOO and that tho Wellington association would take all the proceeds, while the Royal society would pay all the expenses. Instead of adopting tho report and recommendation the meeting merely received them.
Opposition to the suggestion of centralisation at Wellington wst strong from representatives of both. Islands as it was not considered possible to carry out the main provisions of the Royal Show, namely, to get exhibits representative of the stock of both islands.
The general impression was that the Royal Show should be moveable, as at present.
