RENNETT COMPANY’S SUCCESSFUL FIGHT

AGAINST GREAT ODDS. BROUGHT DOWN PRICE OF PRODUCT TO ONE-TENTH. Per Press Association. WHANGAREI, Last Night. _ “As au instance of steps taken in tho effort to crush co-operative concerns, the case of tho New Zealand Rcnnctt Coy. is outstanding,’’ said Mr. Morton in his presidential speech to the National Dairy association to-day. Mr. Morton recounted how the company started 15 years ago after overcoming great difficulties. It had proved itself capable of producing in New Zealand a product equal in quality to any other in tho world, while it was able to show a substantial profit. Beforo the company commenced operating, prohibitive prices were charged, a keg costing as much as £35. Tho company had brought prices clown until to-day it was £3 13s a keg. Every effort had been mado to squeeze it out of existence. Ono of tho largest manufacturing firms in the world quoted rennet on tho London market at £5 13s a keg, yet after paying freight, duty and commission, it was selling in New Zealand at tho same price as tho farmers’ company. The boneless veal industry was connected with rennet making, in that freezing companies handling calves were able to supply the rennet company with as many bellies as it required. It was only a matter of time when the company would be able to supply all requirements in New Zealand and extend its trading to Canada, where cheese companies were paying £6 keg, and to Australia.
