WILKINS’ FIFTEEN YEARS’ PROGRAMME

ANTARCTIC STATIONS. United Press Association —By Eleetri* Telegraph—Copyright. / LONDON, May 5. Sir Hubert Wilkins, the Arctic and Antarctic explorer, landed at Plymouth to-day from Now York. On his last Antarctic trip Sir Hubert explored 1200 miles of coastline, discovering _ 20 islands, two channels and one strait. In an interview, Sir Hubert stated that at present ho was marking time until September, when he would return to the Antarctic to pick up the equipment stored on Deception Island. “It must be recognised that the present. w.ork is of a preliminary charhe said. “Tho task I have set myself involves from ten to 15 years’ labour. After tho completion of the geographical work this year ana making one more trip to the Arctic, I will be. able to proceed with the real plans. My ambition is to establish 12 observation stations.’’ Sir Hubert Wilkins will leave New York in September to join the Norwegian whalers at Monte Video on a trip southward, It is proposed to explore 2500 mile 3 of coast between Graham’s Land and the Ross Sea. The next flight will bring Sir Hubert to Commander Byrd’s headquarters.
