CHURCH HONOURS EX- GOVER NO United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Monday, 9.15 p.m. NEW YORK, May 5. Ex-Governor “Al” Smith received the Laetarte medal from the University of Notre Dame as an American lay Roman Catholic whose achievements in some special field has brought glory to the Roman Catholic faith. There was a brilliant assemblage of prominent personages in tho business, religious, social and political groups, who witnessed the presentation of tho medal by Cardinal Hayes at Notre Dame club.
A letter from President Hoover was read in which he said Mr. Smith was “a distinguished American and a great public servant.”
