GOOD FOR FARMERS, FATAL TO MOTORISTS

HEAVY" RAINS IN ENGLAND.

FOURTEEN FATALITIES DUE TO CARS SKIDDING

Sun Cable,

Received Monday 8.50 p.m. LONDON, May 6.

Steady week-end rains are breaking the long drought and relieving farmers of anxiety. They have, however, transformed the roads into veritable death traps for motorists, of whom many had their first experience of wet surfaces. At least 14 have been killed owing to skidding, due to the rain mixing with the thick grease deposits left during the dry spell. Many new drivers received the first warning of a skid when they found themselves ditched.

The Duke of York, while going to London, collided with a motor cycle and side car.' ’ The impact was fortunately slight and both vehicles were little damaged, and the Duke was able to continue his journey.
