VALEDICTORY

MISS LORNA HODDER FAREWELLED.

There was a large gathering of Sunday school teachers and Bible class members at the Cuba Street Methodist schoolroom last Sunday evening, when a farowell tea was given to Miss Lorna Hodder, to bid her bon voyage, and a pleasant and happy sojourn in the States.

Mr J., O. Boniface, vice-superintend-ent of tho Sunday school presided and apologised for the absence of Mr. G. G. Ha tic ok, and a letter of apology was read from the Rev. J. D. McArthur.

Mr. A. H. Fisher spoke on behalf of the Spnday school, paying tribute _to the able and zealous manner in which Miss Hodder had laboured as travelling secretary of the Methodist Y.W.B.C. movement, and Cuba street urns very proud that one of its scholars had taken up a term of office in this work among tho youth of the Church. Miss M. Smith, on behalf of the Senior Young Women’s Bible class, spoke of tho love and esteem in which Miss Hodder was held in the Bible classes and also throughout the whole Methodist connection in New' Zealand. Miss K. Jamieson also spoke, representing tlie Junior Bible classes, and as an old family friend, and wished to express her thanks to her parents, who had. made it possible that Miss Hodder had been able to tako the travelling secretaryship, which she has ably filled these last four years. Miss E. Winton also spoke on behalf of the Pollyanna Club.

Miss Hodder was greeted with prolonged applause on rising to reply, and wished to thank all for the kind things spoken, and the occasion was made all the more memorable to her by tho large representative gathering; every momber of her late class, the intermediate Bible class, being present. Mr T. R. Hodder also feelingly remarked on the departure of his daughter. After the singing of the Bible class chorus and three short prayers for the departing guest, and Mrs McArthur in her illness, the proceedings were brought to a close. Miss Hodder then personally said good-bye to all present.
