BUSINESS GIRLS’ CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Business Girls’ Lunch club was fairly well attended last evening. Miss H. Yeoman occupied the chair in the absence of Mrs Al. H. Oram (president). Miss S. D. Lucas (secretary) read the third annual report: — During the year, speakers had addressed tho club. Entertainment committees had arranged several parties, these taking the form of visits to Girls’ Flock House, theatre parties, parties at various of tho members’ homes and in conjunction with the Rotary club, a party was taken out to tho Boys’ Flock House at Bulls. Although the subscription levied by the club was. small, being only 5s a year, tbe club found itself in a better financial position than ever before. The annual dance was held in the Anzac club on June 27 and owing to the hard work put in by a very energetic committee, the dance was voted an outstanding success both socially and financially. The concert organised by tlie entertainment committee for the relief of the unemployed was an unequalled success, yielding the net sum of £G2 16s 3d. After the final figures were received, a committee consisting of the president, Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., Mrs Christian and Misses V. Wilson and I. MacKinnon, was elected to inquire into cases of distress and to assist those most deserving. Several people had been aided with the assistance of the district nurse, and the club still had a credit of £25 11s 7d in the fund account. The election of officers resulted: — Patrons, Mesdames A. J. Graham and M. H. Oram; president, Mrs F. W. Christian; vice-presidents, Mesdames H. Palmer, A. E. Mansford, M. A. Eliott, F._ J. Nathan, J. A. Grant, J. A. Nash, W. Day, J H B’lockley; joint secretaries, Misses S D. Lucas and T. Blockley; treasurer, Miss G. Bates; committee, Misses M. Rogers, D. Edwards, E. Mayo, C. Mardon, D. Johansen, M. Symons, D. Bennett and H. Yeoman.

It was decided to have a visitors luncheon on May .13. Members are therefore asked to be present and are requested to take a visitor.

Votes of thanks were accorded the hon. auditor, Mr. W. Newlands, and the retiring committee, secretary and treasurer and Mr Bleasel, for the use of the Broadway room for meetings.
