At Toronto, Gains (Canada) secured the verdict in a ten round contest over Cook (Australia). Gains weighed 189 J lbs. and Cook 194Jlbs. The negro led in the first round, pounding the Australian to the ropes with blows to the head. The second round was even but Gains again came to the fore in ( the third with hard lefts to the body. Cook was missing and continued to miss in the fourth but landed several stiff punches to the head, drawing blood from his opponent’s nose. The round was even. Both fought furiously, taking punches and giving punishment in the fifth but the Canadian led. Tho Negro had the Australian dizzy in the sixth round in a terrific attack, taking the round by a wide margin. Tho seventh found Cook’s nose bleeding and his opponent making a target of it. Tho Australian seemed content to hold on. This was Gain’s round. Cook fought more gamely in the eighth and the round was even. Cook was desperately tired in the ninth and swung blindly. He tried boxing the Negro and the round was even. Tho tenth was a hammer and tongs affair, both men trying to slaughter the other, but it was Gain’s round. HEENEY OFFERED MATCH IN BERLIN. Received Monday, 7.45 p.m. NEW YORK, April 15. Joe Jacobs, American agent for Sehmeling, states that Heeney has received an offer from a Berlin promoter to meet Sehmeling in June at Berlin.
