Mrs. S. Abrahams is e Palmerston North visitor to New Plymouth. Miss Margaret Johnston, of Feilding, is the guest of Mrs. F. W. Johnston, Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lethbridge, At*pata, returned on Monday from a brief visit to Waipawa. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Fry and family, “Punga Iwi,” Makino, returned on. Saturday from a visit to Taupo. Mrs Wattie Booth, Cheltenham, with her children, is spending, a holiday in Sumner, Christchurch, -with her mother Mrs. Fountain Barber. Miss Nora Hocking, Kiwitea, returned at the beginning of the week from Danncvirko, where she was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Monrad. Enquiries at the hospital last evening elicited tho information that Mrs, Firkin, who' was injured in a motor accident in tho Square last- week, is progressing favourably. Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, on a recent visit to All Saints’ Children’s Home, Foxton ,especially remarked upon the wellcared for and happy appearance of the children -who were a real credit to the home. Mrs. Lowery, Karori, Wellington, who has been staying in Palmerston North, paid a short visit to All Saints’ Children’s Home, Foxton, during the week-end, and complimented the matron, Mrs. Bain 09 the happy surroundings and bright faces of tho children. Mr and Mrs. C. Wilmshurst, of New Plymouth, have been visiting- Mr Wilmshurst’s sister, Mrs. T. Well, of Long Milford Road, Palmerston North. They have many old friends in Palmerston North and Mr Wilmshurst has taken the opportunity to renew acquaintance with a cousin, Mrs. S. Green Victoria Avenue, whom he had not seen for 70 years. Both have 75 years behind them.-

Further honourable recognition has come to Miss W. Herrick, M.A., B.Sc., of Levin, whose scholastic career has been followed with much interest by her local friends (says the Chronicle). She has been awarded the “Sarah Ann Rhodes Fellowship” 'for research, which carries'with it a salary of £4OO per annum. Miss Herrick will join the staff at Massey College and also take up work at Hamilton before proceeding to Otago University. She has held both Junior and Senior National scholarships and the “Sarah Ann Rhodes Scholarship,-’.’-. and her other achievements include firstrclass honours in chemistry. She is at present teaching at Avonside Girls’ College, Christchurch.
