P.N. HIGH SCHOOLS’ BOARD OF GOVERNORS

FINANCIAL REPORT. The chairman of the Palmerston North High Schools Board of Governors (Mr W. R. Birnie) in his report to the annual meeting of the board last evening stated that although the board’s finance would require careful handling, solid progress had been made during the past year. Debentures, etc., amounting to £7OO owing for hostel furnishings had been paid off while the general bank account showed a reasonable credit. The school house bank account, however, showed a debit of £286 8s 5d which practically represented the balance of expense incurred for furnishing school house at the boginning. It should be the aim of the board by careful supervision to change this debit into a favourable balance. The building and sites capital account was in debit to the extent of £IOOB 3s 4d. If representations in connection with outstanding grants due by the department, were successful in tho new financial year the board should bo in a position to bring this account into order. The report concludes by extending tho thanks of the board to the Director of Education and his officers for the sympathetic consideration and assistance given in every emergency.
