CASE IN MAGISTRATES COURT. In the Magistrate’s Court at Palmerston North yesterday Frank Rhodes, of Palmerston North, boardinghouse keeper, took action against Henry Cooper,-of Palmerston North, veterinary surgeon, for the recovery of £l6 6s being money owing for board and residence supplied to Cooper, his wife and their dog. . Mr Lauronson appeared for plaintiff who stated that Cooper had paid £5 on account leaving a balance owing of £IG 6s, mostly for the dog. The evidence of plaintiff showed that when Cooper and his wife left, they asked plaintiff if he would keep the dog, which was for sale. Cooper authorised plaintiff to sell the dog for £7 7s and recoup himself out of the proceeds. When it was found that the dog would not sell, witness wrote Cooper, stating that he was going to charge 10s a week for the dog’s board and residence to which Cooper replied that 7s 6d a week ■was enough for any dog’s keep. The animal was still in plaintiff’s possession, it- rvas a terrible nuisance and very destructive as far as chickens were concerned. Defendant, Cooper, acting as his own counsel cross-examined.
