SILTING-UP OF WAIKATO RIVER
CONSERVATION NECESSARY. LAEGE AEEAS SPOILED BY FREQUENT BLOODING, Per Press Association. HAMILTON, Last Night. A conference was held in Hamilton to-day to discuss the silting and flooding of the Waikato river. Eeprcsentatives were present from a wide area. The meeting resolved unanimously to recommend the appointment of a Waikato Conservation Board. Mr. W. Lee Martin, M.P., said he hoped to arrange for a tour of inspection of the river and district by the Minister of Public Works and members of Parliament, commencing about March 18.
Statements at the meeting alleged that silting had greatly increased and that laTgo areas of farm land had been mado useless through frequent flooding. Tho railway as well as the Toad will havo to be raised if tho silting goes unchecked.
