J. B. BATCHELOR PLEADS GUILTY
THEFT OF LARGE SUMS. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 5. In the Magistrate’s Court John Black Batchelor, the ex-Christchurch solicitor, was charged with the theft of sums of £986 and £3OO. Evidence was given on the first charge that the money was paid to Batchelor to complete the purchase of a house. Accused gave a cheque to tho solicitor for tho vendor, but the cheque was dishonoured. In the second instance a woman paid the money to Batchelor ta pay off a mortgago. Batchelor’s cheque was again dishonoured. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the supremo Courj; for sentence.
