SHORT SITTING OF POLICE COURT
JUSTICES PRESIDE. Messrs W. F. Durward and D. J. Lovelock, J.P.’s presided over a short sitting of _ the Police Court yesterday morning. A statutory first offending drunk was convicted and fined the amount of his bail, 10s. Arthur Norman Toms, for whom Mr. Rutherfurd appeared, pleaded not guilty to a charge of failing to notify the motor registration authorities of the sale of a motor cycle within seven days. The defence put forward was that the ultimate purchaser took out the motor cycle for a trial spin on December 17 last and failed to return it until January 5 when the sale was completed. The transfer was notified on January 7. The presiding justices decided to convict and imposed a penalty ot' £l, with 10s costs. Annie Allison, storekeeper, of Cuba street, Palmerston North, was fined ss, with costs 10s for selling potatoes on Sunday, February 17. Helena Ochania Rowlands, who failed to notify the motor registration authorities of tho transfer of a motor car was fined £l, with 15s costs * On two charges of allowing stock to wander, P. AA r . A. Balmer, of Pohangina was fined ss, "with costs amounting in all to £1 12s. Similar offences by D. Rutherfurd, of Komako, cost him in fine and costs £2 2s.
