The drafting of a constitution was left to tho executive committee. The secretary, Mr. W. Whitehead, has received word that tho Eev. C. S. Matthews, of Ashburton, has nccopted tho call to the pastorato of the Palmerston North Baptist Church. He will take up his ministry on May 5. Mr. Wm. Davies, of tho , Aberystwyth (Wales) Plant Breeding station, along with Mrs. Davies, have arrived in Palmerston North to talco up their residence. Mr. Davies will assist in investigations being carried out by the New Zealand Plant Research station, Palmerston North. A Press Association telegram from Invercargill states that a well-known pastoralist, Mr James King, died suddenly yesterday. He was an ex-presi-dent of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association and the Farmers’ Union and a former chairman of the Wallace County Council and a member of numerous societies.
At tho annual meeting of the British Medical Association it was decided that tho next annual conference be held at Christchurch. Dr. T. Mill. C.M.G., C.B.E. Christchurch was unanimously designated president-elect. Sir Donald McGavin was re-elected chairman of the council for tho ensuing year and members of the executive committee were also re-elected. The inaugural meeting of tho Medico-Psychological association was held in "Wellington yesterday, the Director-General of Mental Hospitals, Dr. Gray, presiding. Tho following officers were elected: President, Dr. Marshall MacDonald (Dunedin); vicepresidents, Drs. Fenwick and Gray; general committee, Drs. John Russell, A. C. McKillop, D. P. Chisholm, C. H Tewslcy; secretary, Dr. H. D. Hayes.
Dr. T. H. A. Valintine, DirectorGeneral of Health, will leave by Mamalius on Wednesday for England. No official announcement has yet been made as to tho purpose of his trip, which is understood to be to England and the Continent. However, Dr. Valintine said he would confer on important matters with the British Health authorities and would represent tho Dominion in several quarters.— Press Association. A visitor to Palmerston North yesterday was Mr. Ernest Baynes, president of the Boyal National Show association of Queensland and a member ot tho Commonwealth Board of Trade. Mr. Baynes was very much impressed with all ho had seen during the course of a tour of the Dominion and had a warm word of praise for tho Palmerston North Showgrounds. The Manawatu district impressed aim as having tremendous potentialities while the quality of the stock which he had seen was remarkably high. Mr. Baynes leaves for Napier to-day.
