NEW GARRATT LOCO. DRAWS HEAVY LOAD
SECOND TRIAL TRIP. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The new Garrett articulated locomotive had a second trial run yesterday with a load of 312 tons, making the trip to Johnsonvillo in 11 minutes. Tho ordinary typo A.B. Pacific engine, drawing a load of 190 tons, takes 14 minutes for the same run. The traction effort of the Garrett engine is 51,3801bs and that of the A.B. type is 20,0001bs only.

Glasgow manufacturers have secured an order for 13 locomotives for the South African railways, tho locomotives costing £7622 each. A German firm secured a contract for 13 similai engines costing £6700 and the American firm of Baldwins, six at £6696 and four at £7272.
