Maunganui left Sydney for Auckland at 3.30 p.rn. yesterday and Marama sailed for Wellington an hour later. Makura sailed on Thursday for Wellington. The annual meeting of tho Palmerston North Orchestral Society will be hold in All Saints’ schoolroom on Monday evening at S o’clock. It is hoped that a large attendance, both of members of the orchestra and supporters, will be present in order to givo tho society every encouragement for its now year.
The next week-end excursion arranged by the Railway Department is to Auckland and the Wnitomo Caves on Friday next. The fares arc at half rate. The motor fares between Hangatiki and Waitoino, guide fees and accommodation charges at the new, commodious hostel at Waitomo are all reduced for the occasion. The Dominion conference of tho Methodist Church yesterday decided that ordained ministers be appointed to Port Albert, Pacroa, Matamata, Gonvillc (Wanganui) Wellington South (second) and probationers to Hikurangi, Morrinsville, Huntly, Masterton, Grcymouth, Hawardcn (North Canterbury) and Martou and homo mission arics to Tuakau, Mosgiel and Picton. Waipawa and Taihapo were reduced to tho status of home mission stations.
Another of the popular week-end ex cursions has been arranged by the Railway Department, viz., to Wellington and Palmerston North on Saturday, 2nd. March. The fares are at hail' ordinary rate from Napier, Palmerston North, and intermediate stations, and the fast excursion trains are at very convenient times.
