RAID ON TOBACCONIST SHOP IS INTERRUPTED
THIEVES ABANDON LOOT. “TREACLE TRICK” PROVES UNAVAILING. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night.
Early this morning, the tobacconist shop of George Weaver, New Brighton, was entered by thieves who got in by smashing the glass shop door> first smearing it with treacle to deaden the sound.
The noise however, awakened * neighbour, who went to investigate. Becoming aware that they were observed the thieves decamped with a sackful of goods, leaving two other sacks with goods ready to take away. They made off oh bicycles but abandoned their sack of loot in some sandhills, whore it was found later.
