BOAT DRIFTED AWAY FROM BATHING PARTY
NARROW ESCAPE FROM DROWNING. GIRL SUPPORTS COMPANION TILL HELP ARRIVES. Per Press Association. ROTORUA, Last Night. A narow escape from' drowning was effected on Lake Rotorua. While bathing from a boat off the shore at Koutu, Miss MacDonald, a chemist’s assistant, and a taxi driver named Wells, found that the boat had drifted away. Wells became exhausted. Miss MacDonald who is a powerful swimmer, supported him for a long time. Seeing the empty boat, a party made for the spot. No sign was seen of tha occupants, but at last cries directed them and Wells, who was semi-con-scious, was taken into the rescuer’s boat. After medical aid both he and Miss MacDonald were able to proceed home.
