One thousand waterside workers at Port Adelaide to-day rushed volunteers unloading the ship Mareeba during smokc-o. The volunteers scrambled for the gangway, which broke and 15 fell on the wharf. They and the others climbed the ropes, crossed over Mareeba’s decks, and jumped into the ketches on the other, side. Stones were thrown at them and one volunteer replied by firing four shots from a revolver. One hundred and fifty mounted police swooped down on the rioters, who then began to move towards tho steamer Mannipa, where the volunteers were attacked with stones and boots. The police used their baton? freely and scattered the men in all directions, many having to go to hospital. - One volunteer, however, was badly injured, being brutally' kicked on tha ground.
