Tho ownership of tho Dixon Cup and Tucker Badges was never in doubt when Shannon went to Dannevirke on Wednesday last. Shannon sent a sporting rink over, consisting of B. AVilkinson, C. Grey, C. C. Franks and A. G. Mason (skip). Though they never looked like winning, they spent a most enjoyable day. The green was in perfect order, but a gusty wind was blowing across, which proved very tricky. Dannevirke won the first four heads and retained a substantial lead right through the game, Shannon pulling its score up a little towards the end of the game by a two and a throe. The final tally was 32 to 9. The defeat of the Shannon team was not unex- i pectcd. To accept defeat, with a smiling face is half the battle with life. Borough Council. In reply to him as to how the tar in hand was holding out, the foreman said that they had done about eight chains, which had taken five barrels. The portion done was badly broken up, and the tar had been put on fairly thick, but where the surface w-as smooth it would be put on lightly. He said they should liavo enough for the work in hand.

Cr. Downes said ho would like to see all the paths that were put down last year and before then top-dressed with the Newcastle tar. He suggested trying out some of the new tar on the footpath oil tho loft side of Ballancc street and along the new path in Venn street to the Catholic church.
