VICTORIAN BOWLERS’ VISIT THIS WEEK

RINKS TO MEET VISITORS The event of the week in the bowling world will be the visit of the team of Victorian bowlers. There have been several teams from New South Wales which have visited New Zealand, and at least one Australian team, but so far this is the first purely Victorian team to tour New Zealand, The game as played in Victoria is taken as a highly-competitivc ono, and a greater degree of keenness is shown by them than is exhibited by players from New South Wales. The Victorians will play matches in Palmerston North on Thursday and Friday, when teams representing all the clubs in the Manawatu Centre will do battle with the visitors. On Thursday at 2 p.m, five rinks representing tho ten clubs outside of Palmerston North will play. Following are the representatives of tho various clubs (Shannon, Pahiatua and Oroua still to come); — Woodville: Pickering, Mules. Otaki, Sathcrley, Smith. ' Levin: Clements, Bull. Feilding. G. Nino rinks were played at Middle Park against tho Victorians and twenty-one ends. The local players defeated the New Zealanders by 186 points to 169. New Zealand rink scores: J. Thompson 20, Parker 16, Pieterson 24, Adcss 12, Carson 19, Doherty 13, Hutchinson 20, Dee 19, Hardlcy 26. The green was heavy.

VICTORIAN BOWLERS PLAY DRAW WITH CHCH. NECK AND NECK 'CONTEST. (Per Press Association.) - CHRISTCHUGRH, Last Night. A five rinks match between the Victorian bowlers and a Christchurch team to-day had a most exciting finish. It tvas a neck and neck contest all the way, the aggregates taken at different stages of the game showingonly the smallest margins and when four rinks had finished all bowlers gathered round to seo the fifth rink play the last two heads, the score standing 21-12 against the Australians. This however put the Victorians three points to the good on the whole match and when they secured a single on the 20th head very few gave the local players a chance. On the last head Christchurch scored four and the game ended in a draw, 100 all. NORTHERN t. PALMERSTON NTH Following rinks will play for Northern in a friendly game against Palmerston North, commencing at 5.30 to-day: Lynch, Kirk, Stallard, Larcomb (s); Kensington, Mills, Thornley, Stuart (s); Thurston, Levy-, Parsons, Bennett (s); Parkes, Newton, Thirtle, Rumble (s); Gillott, Vile, Cunninghamc, Tapp (s). The last-named rink will also play for the Harris gold stars. NORTHERN BEAT MANAWATD A return match was played between Manawatu and Northern on the latter’s green after 5 o’clock last evening, and resulted in a win for Northern by GO to 41. Pillowing were the rinks and scores, Northern players mentioned first;—Thurston, Kirk, Rumble, Tapp (s) 21, ,v Morris, H.
