LONGBURN FREEZING WORKERS’ PICNIC

A SUCCESSFUL OUTING.

Tbo annual picnic of tlio Longburn i freezing workers took placo in tbo 1 ideal paddock of Batchelor's estate over Fitzherbert bridge yesterday and was a pronounced success, fully 1000 people, young and old, being present. Shortly after, 9.30 in the morning the Municipal 'buses left the Square filled to their utmost, also Messrs. Madge [ Bros charabancs from Longburn conI vcying the workers and their families and many friends who participated in the splendid day’s outing. | The president of tho branch, Mr. F. ' Clinic, and his energetic secretary, Mr. G. Gulliver, together with his commiti tee (Messrs Neil, Terry, Lorenz, Mor--1 gan, Podjursky, Boss, E. Do Clccnc, ; McClelland, Pronse, Pope, Trepo, LearI mont and P. Carpenter) all were kept busy for all and sundry which brought • about tho ■ splendid success achieved. I During tho day tho Palmrston North I Pipe Baud was in attendance and also j helped to liven things up, their efforts ; being greatly appreciated. They were I under the control of Pipe Master Murdoch McKenzie and Drum-Major Cm- . den. Mr. Trollop capably filled the post of supervising tho hot water, tea and sugar for tho branch, which was supplied free. A very pleasing item during an interval was tho Highland dancing by Miss Kinnamont to music , supplied by Mr. Murdoch McKenzie 1 (piper), | Visitors present during the day in--1 eluded Mr. McLeod, General Secretary , of the Wellington Proviucial District of Freezing Workers, Mr. W, Bromley, and Mr. E. Semple, who were in Palmerston North for the week-end. Three cheers were given for tho Pipe Band

and to Mr. S. MacAulay for placing the paddock at tlicir disposal and Hearty cheers to all the business people

for their very useful donations of trophies for the various events competed for.
