HOT DRINKS FOR COLDS
During changeabe weather colds are prevalent, for which there is nothing so comforting as a hot drink. Black currant drink is excellent for allaying throat irraltion. Take a dessertspoonful of black current jam, a squeeze of lemon juice, and a teaspoonful of sugar, and place in a jug. Add half a pint of boiling water over the jug, and stand by tho side of the fire for 20 minutes. Strain and serve. Honey may be used for sweetening instead of sugar. The children will just love treacle po ; sset. and it is so easy to prepare.. Place a teacupful of milk in an enamelled pan and bring to the boil. And ,a teaspoonful of golden .syrup, bring to tho boil again, and then strain through muslin. Both nourishing and stimulating is egg nog. Separate tho white and yolk of an egg and heat up the yolk with two teaspoons of castor sugar. Then add two teaspoonfuls of brandy. Bring half a pint of milk to the. boil, pour on to tho other ingredients, and fold in tho while of egg, then whisking it to a froth. With a wineglass of port two lumps of sugar, a piece of lemon rind and a grating .of nutmeg a soothing and warming drink is quickly prepared. Flace wine, sugar and rind in a glass, dilute with boiling water, and add nutmeg to taste.
